The Astana EXPO 2017 to be held in Kazakhstan from June 10 to Sept 10 this year will provide opportunities for Singapore to showcase its sustainable energy capabilities and deepen bilateral ties with Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) said.

In a press statement, MTI shared plans to engage businesses as well as policy makers and regulators from around the world and specifically host country Kazakhstan, through the Singapore Pavilion at the Expo.

"One of the key thrusts in the strategies of the Committee of the Future Economy is about deepening and diversifying our economic linkages, including trade," said Luke Goh, deputy secretary of trade at MTI. "Our engagement with (Kazakhstan) has been growing and we are keen to build on it, and have it deepen much more."

Designed by leading local architect Randy Chan, the Singapore Pavilion be styled after a terrarium, spanning 385 square metres to display Singapore's efforts to create a sustainable ecosystem, in line with the expo's theme of "Future Energy".

International visitors and the Kazakh audience will be able to experience aspects of Singapore in six zones, with the first zone simulating the garden city's humid tropical conditions. Other zones will feature Singapore's strategies for ecological sustainability in energy solutions and innovations.

The pavilion will also host a Capacity Building Programme to promote best practices and exchange knowledge with Central Asian policy makers and regulators in the areas of sustainable development, urban planning and energy solutions.

The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) will deliver a workshop titled ‘Low Carbon technologies for policy makers’, and will also exhibit its two “living lab” projects, EcoCampus and REIDS, at the Singapore Pavilion.

Astana EXPO 2017 is a great opportunity for the leading world experts to discuss ways to make “green energy”, its availability, sustainability and economy, and the main development trend for further decades.
