Power Train Test Lab

The group has currently a Power Train Test Lab for Electric Vehicles. This lab will be extended on early 2017.

The test lab serves as a platform to build and test rapid prototypes. Characterization and configuration of multiple combinations of energy storage systems can be performed along with implementation of effective energy management strategies for electric vehicles. Power trains can be tested for real drive cycles in conjunction with experiments on fast charging, regenerative braking and V2G concepts.

Power Train Test Lab aims to provide a platform for design and validation of Autonomous Vehicle (AV) robotics kits. The figure shows hardware-in-the-loop testing and a vehicle on test-bed with generators coupled to the rear wheels. Supervisory controls for the vehicle operation are implemented in simulation environment. Real road conditions are emulated with the help of generators as loads.
